“ A promise must never be broken” - Alexander Hamilton

This quote from Hamilton is very powerful, because it is very meticulous and concise to the human mind. He states that any promise that you make can never be broken, because it could lead to negative consequences. For example, if you make a promise to get home by 10:00, but you come home 30 minutes later, you just broke a promise. Consequences can happen such as grounded, your parents taking your phone away, etc. A promise can never be broken or else it could leave a bad reputation or a bad name on you. For example, your name will define you as dishonest or not trustworthy.  If you keep a promise, you must stick to it no matter what. That is why it could never be broken. For instance, if you promise your parents to take out the trash before you leave to your friend’s house and you kept the promise, than it will leave you a good reputation on you. If a promise is broken, it wouldn’t be consider a promise anymore, because you broke it. Therefore, Alexander Hamilton stated this quote to induce us to keep a promise and not to break it or else there will be conundrums.

“It is our duty to concentrate all our influence to make popular that which is sound and good, and unpopular that which is unsound”(not good)- Joseph Smith

This student success statement is by Joseph Smith and it is just brilliant to use in our daily lives. This quote is saying that it is our job or responsibility to focus on all of our influence of good things and the bad things which is unsound. To make popular is the sound and good and to make unpopular is the unsound which are the not good things. Sound and good are the good examples that we should do as an individual. For instance, you have to be an influence of the good and sound. Such as doing the right things. That is our duty and we all need to focus on that a little more. However, if we are the influence of the unsound, society would be a lot more different than it is. For example, if you do the wrong things such as being uncooperative, doing drugs, disrespectful, etc, than you are concentrating on the unpopular which is not good. Over, this quote is emphasizing to all of us that we all have to be the great influence to have sound and good popular and unsound ( not good) unpopular.

          Spring Break
My spring break seemed very short, however, I did a variety of activities. On Monday, I went to my basketball practice in the morning for an hour and a half. We went over some plays, drills, and other new skills we should use in the game. Later on , I got home and watch netflix for a very long time. I watched this show called, 13 Reasons Why, which is a pretty good show. The rest of the day, I spend time on taking care of my pets and my little sister. The next day, I didn’t do much since I didn’t had practice. That day consisted of watching for a very long time. Then, I started cleaning the house a little bit with my sister. We then went in our backyard and practice a little basketball. On Wednesday, I was invited to go to the park with my friends, but my mom didn’t let me go. I was pretty down at first, until I heard the mailman leave something on the door. I waited for him to leave and went outside to get the package. As I opened the package, it was my book that I away wanted and that I ordered three days ago! I was full of joy and extremely satisfied with this. The book was called, “More than Me.” Therefore, I read the book for the rest of the day. On Thursday, I went to practice on the morning like on Monday. We did other plays and practice on other drills which was very exciting. After practice, my mom took us to the mall. We had our mom and daughter time which was really great. On Friday, I did my math homework which was IXl. It was good reviewing factors for me. The rest of the day was pretty dull, because all I did was practicing ball and sleeping. On Saturday, I had practice but for my friend’s quinceanera. Practice was pretty good, even though our dance instructor was stressed every second. Later on, my family and I went to see the movie The Fate of the Furious and it was the best ! On Sunday, it was Easter!  Prepared food for our lunch later on. While my parents were preparing food, I was enjoying my basketball game of the Golden state Warriors.  Later on, we ate lunch and it was extremely fun! Overall. My spring break was pretty great.

Student Success Statement

“ I am not bound to win, but I am bound to to be true. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong. “ - Abraham Lincoln.

This student success statement demonstrates that no matter where you are, you should not be there to win but to be true to yourself. You must stand with others that are right and part from when they are wrong. This quote by Lincoln shows that we should be truthful and to stand with anybody who is right . However, if they are wrong and making wrong decisions, then part away from them. This quote can be part from our everyday lives as a student, because it reflects that being a student has to be bound to be true. We must turn in homework and study for the tests. However, if you don’t turn in your homework and all that, than you are standing where the people do wrong. It is significant that we do our work efficiently and to be standing with anybody that stands right. For instance, if you are helpful and choosing the right, then you are standing with anybody that stands right. This quote is pretty self-explanatory in which it tells us to do the right thing and stand with anybody that stand right.

Student Success Statement

“ Character is higher than intellect.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

This student success statement demonstrates that the only thing that is higher than intellect is the character itself.Intellect is basically understanding the knowledge of something. Emerson states that the character is higher than  intellect, is because what matters more is your character and not your understanding of things. Your character is what defines you. For instance, if you get somewhat good grades but you are a bad person inside, that is not good. You must have a good character along with the intellect. Examples of having a great character is being generous and kind, thoughtful, having sportsmanship, honest, loyal, etc. That is the best character anyone can see. Even though having a great character is higher than intellect, it is also significant to to be an intellect. However, these two terms have a connection. In order to be an intellect, you must have a great character. Having a great character includes trying to be good student, therefore, you will be an intellect. Throughout my perspective, I believe that having a great character is literally the key of anything. It is higher than intellect, because a character is much more powerful, and everyone sees that. For instance, the coach of the University of North Carolina recruits student in high school and one of the key points that he notices in them is character. This demonstrates that it is very significant to have a good character. It is powerful.

Student Success Statement

“ I trust that my hard work will pay off.” - Tyler Haws

This student success statement can be implied in your everyday life. Haws stated that he, as an individual, trust his hard work that he puts in that will pay off sooner or later. It doesn’t necessarily mean in sports but in anything. In sports, you must work very hard to win something out of it. Like Tyler, you must practice everyday, because at the end of the day, you will get something out of it. The significant key word in his quote is “trust”. You must be able to trust your hard work, because with your trust, you can do anything at the end of the day. With Tyler’s hard work, it actually really payed off for him. He went to BYU to play college basketball. He scored a lot of points per game! He was very successful in his basketball future. However, all of that doesn’t come from nothing. But it comes from hard work. Not only he was getting successful in basketball, but he was lucky enough to be part of the missionary in the Mormon Church. He always wanted that as a kid, therefore, he worked hard for that goal in order to achieve it. For example, if you want to be accepted in a challenging and great university/college, then you must work very hard for that. After the sacrifices, the hard work, straight A’s, etc, you have an extremely high probability to getting accepted in any university/ college you would love to go. All of this leads to working hard. Personally, I believe and trust that this quote can change lives including mines. I acknowledge the fact that I must work very hard in order to get accepted at my favorite university, UCLA. And if working hard means doing sacrifices, having straight A’s, volunteering, etc, then I will work hard so that hopefully in the future, it can pay off.
