               Mental Health Counselor

Duties and Responsibilities: Mental Health Counselors educate, advise, and support patients with mental health issues. They have numerous duties to complete. For example, they maintain confidentiality of records relating to the client’s treatment. They try to encourage clients to express their feelings and help them to develop insight into themselves and their relationships. One of their duties is to modify treatments as needed for the patient. They will gather all the information and issues that the patient is having and will study it. The counselor will collaborate with other staff members that work there to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans for them. After treatment, they will work with the patient individually and monitor their use of medications.

Salary: $41,880 (median salary)

Education: The education that is needed is not quite complex. Majority of individuals who wants to pursuit a mental health counselor career will usually begin by earning a bachelor’s degree in counseling. It will be significant if they start taking courses. The education length will take about 4 years. Another option is to earn a master’s degree in counseling. ( only for the graduates.) For a PHD or a Doctoral work, you must earn a Doctorate in counseling. Experience in the clinical field is also required. It is also important to participate in education programs or workshops.

Demand or Need for this Profession: The job outlook for this profession is 19% increasing which is faster than the average. There not might be a need as long as it grows constantly.

Reflection: I think I would like to be a counselor for mental health, because I would like to help people with their issues and help them to be happy.
