  Yoga Therapist

Duties and Responsibilities: A yoga therapist is a professional in which utilize yoga to assist people with physical issues, emotional issues or specific health programs. One of your duties is to work with people that has physical issues such as asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure, or back pain. You will also help people with emotional issues such as stress or depression.  Their main responsibility is to not hurt the patient while these sessions. They must ensure that all yoga poses are done correctly and without injury, which includes close attention to the abilities of their clients. The first step of this therapy is with a consultation while taking notes of the client’s physical condition. You will teach them the right poses and give advice on how to maintain a good health.

Salary: median wage of $40,970

Education: The education requirements in order to become a yoga therapist is not very demanding. You must be have a high school degree to start off. The earn a bachelor’s degree for a university. You must take some special courses such as physiology, chemistry, anatomy, healthcare,  and other courses that include mind-body focus. After you graduate, you must enter to a training program in yoga therapy sessions. It will be an 800 hour training program.

Demand or Need for this profession: The job outlook for yoga therapist is expected to grow 24 percent through 2020 which is faster than average. Therefore, there should be a need for this profession.

Reflection: I don’t think I would like to be a yoga therapist, because sometimes it can be upsetting to work with patients who are stressed.
